This book was very heartfelt and I couldn't put it down. I'm glad drew was had a friend she could go to and trust, but sometimes friends can only understand so much if they haven't been through the same trams as you. So I really liked Terri and Mark. Craig was cruel and be got what was coming to him I was shocked about Deb but really loved how Dennis took his time with Drew and really cared about her feelings and her as a person. Carl wasn't so bad just very dominant. Sometimes his tricks were way too much and using his daughter was not okay he wanted something he couldn't get and that excited him. Overall the book was great!! Oh I loved Joseph always told it like it was!First time reading by this author and it was great

Four years ago, Drew escaped an unhealthy relationship. With the help of her therapist, Joseph, and her best friends, Terri and Mark, with whom she has been living, she is striving for normal. Drew's abusive relationship with ex-boyfriend, Craig, is revealed through therapy sessions and flashbacks. Her friends believe she should be moving on and encourage her to see Dennis. Dennis is an all-around nice guy. Reliable, funny, safe.
But when Drew meets Carl, who is a widower with a little girl Drew is taking care of in the childcare center where she works, Drew has conflicting feelings whether normal and safe is right for her. Carl is self-assured, manipulative and controlling. In many ways very similar to her ex-boyfriend, Craig.
And what will happen when Craig comes back into their lives?
This was a very compelling story with a brilliant mix of romance, suspense, family drama, lots of emotions and some nice twists. B.L. Mooney's writing really draws you in and the characters are very well developed, that includes all the secondary characters.
I had a bit of a love/hate relationship going on with Drew. She is obviously a very vulnerable young woman with a traumatic past and I really wanted her to succeed. But, she made some pretty stupid decisions along the way. Some of the events relating to the childcare setting I found very difficult to believe.
The audiobook narration by Meghan Kelly was convincing and enjoyable.
4 stars for the story and for the narration.

Complex story, wonderful characters and emotionally charged. Definitely not a quick read. There were times when I felt the characters pain so much that I wanted to put the book away. Now I am cheering for her and looking forward to the next book. This book runs the gamut of emotions and pulls the reader along. Make sure you're ready. For the ride.

This is an honest review and I purchase this book. I am not a blogger. The story is about Drew and her past abuse with an ex named Craig and two supporting characters Mark and Terri. The book does deal with mental, emotional and sexual abuse so it is pretty dark and edgy and not recommend for younger reader. Where to start...I struggled with this book because it was boring and I found myself NOT caring about Terri and I know I should have. I am even struggling with this revivew because I couldn't put my finger on what exactly was wrong with the book. The story starts out Drew is in therapy after escaping her ex's abuse but not w/out trauma an battle scars. She has a close relationship with Terri and Mark and is working on making her life normal (hence the title). There were a few twist I guess?? Drew finds herself recently employed in a preschool/charter school and catches the eye of one of the kid's father. Here is were it starts to fall apart. At the same time she is hooked up on a blind date with Terri and Marks friend and Drew sorta has a relationship with this person (sorta because she can't decide if she wants one or not. Here is where it fell apart. Drew is harassed by the father of one of the kids she teaches at this school and it is really bad harassment. Uses the daughter to manipulate Drew into situations, traps her in her offices, touches her inappropriately and NO one really does anything about it...except the sorta boyfriend who gets into a fist fight with the stalker right in front of the school!! And yet Drew is attracted to this jerk because she is damaged from her relationship with Craig. Cue the eye roll.
There are some other twist and a sorta shocking ending (not really but just in case you are shocked) and when it was over I was glad.
I read this book a few weeks ago and LOVED it. The author and I are friends (we met online, anyway) and so she asked me not to review it. But since I paid hard earned money for it I decided to do it anyway. So, I guess the good news for both, you and I, is that I don't listen very well. That said, if you enjoy love, angst, suspense, heartache, lust, and all the rest of it...then I think you'll enjoy this book as much as I did.
